Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has rejected rumours linking him with a move to Spanish La Liga.
The Belgian is widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in world football and he has been linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona in the past.
However, Kompany is adamant he is only focused on Manchester City, while adding that neither of the two Spanish giants are appealing to him at the moment.
“It would take me time at another club to reach the level I have achieved with City,” Kompany was quoted as saying in The Sun.
“Even then there would be no guarantee I could do it. Besides, I am convinced that I can win just as many honours with City as I could with Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“Whoever goes to play for Real will be in Ronaldo’s shadow, and whoever joins Barca will be overshadowed by Messi. So I prefer to be captain of Manchester City.”
Vincent Kompany began his career at Anderlecht, but it was at Hamburg that he made a name for himself.
Following two injury-plagued seasons in Bundesliga, the Belgian international moved to Manchester City and immediately became a key player at Etihad Stadium.
Over the last four years, the 26-year-old has made 133 Premier League appearances, scoring 6 goals in the process.
