Ibrahima Konate has removed the reference to RB Leipzig from the biography on his Instagram profile, causing a leap of excitement among Liverpool fans with recent reports suggesting the young defender is very close to completing the Anfield move.
Fabrizio Romano reported last month that Liverpool had agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Konate, and all that remained was for an agreement between the two clubs to be reached. The Italian journalist is adamant that the situation has not changed, and the player’s removal of the Leizpig reference seems to reaffirm his reports.
However, the Bundesliga side remain keen on keeping the 21-year-old in their ranks and they aren’t likely to contemplate any offers below the release clause in his contract, believed to be standing at €35 million. Nonetheless, Liverpool are expected to trigger the clause if no other path is left to them, as they look to make sure the defensive injury woes of this season don’t happen again.
