Koreans fail drug tests

Two North Korean players at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup have come under suspicion after failing anti-doping tests.

Jong Sun Song and Sim Pok Jong were provisionally suspended after the tests were undertaken prior to North Korea’s match with Colombia in Bochum on Wednesday.

As FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations state, if more than one player in a team is found guilty of an anti-doping rule violation, target testing of the remainder of the team will continue for the rest of the competition.

Both players have the right to request that their ‘B’ sample is analysed, however the pair have neglected to use that right so far.

The North Koreans are not the first players at the tournament to fall foul of drug testers, with Colombia’s Yineth Varon also provisionally suspended when tested in Leverkusen last month.
