Laurent Koscielny will definitely leave Arsenal this summer. And not just this summer, but in the coming days, as he is set to join Ligue 1 side Girondins de Bordeaux. According to various media reports, the Arsenal veteran is in France, ready to undergo a medical. Should he pass it, a €5m deal will be completed.
Arsenal did not want to sell their experienced centre-back, but rather keep him for another season. Koscielny’s contract was set to expire next summer, in June 2020, and with Arsenal’s continuous problems in central defence, the Frenchman was needed by the club. However, he decided he did not want to play in Premier League anymore and Arsenal have reluctantly agreed a sale.
Bordeaux are therefore getting the soon-to-be 34-year-old, while Arsenal will remain light on options at centre-back, with Shkodran Mustafi under public scrutiny due to poor performances and Gunners’ lack of activity in the transfer market defence-wise.
