Having beaten UEFA at the Court of Arbitration for Sports and seen their two-year European ban overturned, Manchester City are reportedly preparing for a serious rebuild this summer.
According to The Telegraph, manager Pep Guardiola is keen on securing at least three big-money signings, and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly tops his wish list.
Aymeric Laporte missed a large chunk of the season through injury, and the Catalan tactician was forced to alternate between 35-year-old midfielder Fernandinho, Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones and 19-year-old Eric Garcia in the heart of defence. And while Laporte remains without a doubt his main defensive pillar, questions remain over who should play alongside the excellent Frenchman, as well as the selection for the role in case of another injury lay-off.
This is where Koulibaly is supposed to fit in, while Guardiola also wants a new left-back and a winger to replace Leroy Sane, who is now a Bayern Munich player.
However, there will be a number of issues City will still need to overcome regarding the 29-year-old Senegalese centre-back. Koulibaly has also been heavily linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid, apart from which he has already revealed that he is very happy in Naples.
