Manchester United’s No.1 target for the upcoming transfer window is Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, according to the Mirror.
The dismissal of Jose Mourinho and the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager halfway through the season proved an insufficient step as United slumped to a sixth-place finish, consequently missing out on Champions League football next season. It remains to be seen how much of an obstacle that will prove when it comes to attracting top talent this summer.
The back line has been the most criticized part of Solskjaer’s team, and it’s quite obvious that quality defensive reinforcements are needed to provide stability. As one of the world’s most rated centre-backs, Koulibaly is certainly capable of providing exactly that, but in order to get the deal done, United will have to break the world record in terms of fee for a defender – the £75 million that Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk, simply because Napoli aren’t looking to sell the Senegalese at the moment.
