“Those who know me know that I am always a fighter. My whole life has been to assert myself, giving up or waving the white flag does not exist in my vocabulary. I will always fight.”

These are the words of Niko Kovac, who is clinging onto his position as Bayern Munich manager and that doesn’t seem like an exaggeration. He made these comments prior to Bayern’s Champions League clash with Benfica, which could prove to be his final game in charge with reports suggesting that he is on the verge of being replaced at the club.

Many fans outside of Bayern admire his tenacity but that will only get you so far in management, especially when it comes to a club as well known and highly regarded as the Champions of Germany. They’re currently nine points back from Borussia Dortmund, who seem like the clear favourites to win the title this season.
