Toni Kroos says Bayern Munich’s 7-0 thrashing of Basel was a statement of intent to Bundesliga title rivals Borussia Dortmund.
After struggling for consistency early in 2012, Bayern impressed with a 7-1 win league win over Hoffenheim last Saturday.
They followed up that hefty win by hammering Swiss champions Basel in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday, prompting Kroos to send out a warning in the direction of Bundesliga title holders Dortmund.
“Of course our win over Basel is a signal to our rivals,” Kroos was quoted as saying by TZ.
“Everybody will have seen that we are back in form. Borussia Dortmund will have noticed our victory as well.”
“We showed once again that we are hungry for more. This was an obvious signal not just to our German rivals, but to the other European teams too.”
Bayern, four points behind league leaders Dortmund, take on Hertha Berlin away from home in their next Bundesliga fixture on Saturday.
