(GSM) – Kevin Kuranyi’s second-half goal moved Schalke atop the Bundesliga on Friday as part of a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart.
Edu fired the Gelsenkirchen outfit in front just after the half-time restart, but saw his goal canceled out by Serdar Tasci’s header four minutes later. Kuranyi, though, fired home to snatch three points.
After the first half ended scoreless, Schalke took the lead thanks to a fortuitous goal as Stuttgart defender Tasci’s clearance went right to Edu for the easy strike past goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.
Tasci, though, redeemed himself on 50 minutes when he rose highest to head home Zdravko Kuzmanovic’s free kick from the wing.
Not to be denied, Schalke persevered and regained the lead in the 55th minute when Heiko Westermann’s cross found Kuranyi for his 14th Bundesliga goal of the season.
Schalke now sit a point ahead of Bayern Munich in the table, with the Bavarians set to face Freiburg on Saturday.
