Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has ended speculation that he wants to join Inter Milan by insisting he is happy to stay at Anfield.
Kuyt, 30, was linked with a move to Italian champions Inter after former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez took charge at the San Siro during the close-season.
The Holland international’s agent even claimed recently that Kuyt was impressed by Inter’s interest in him.
But Kuyt, who scored a crucial goal as Liverpool defeated Trabzonspor in the Europa League on Thursday, has ruled out a switch to Italy.
“I like it here and want to stay and win things,” Kuyt told The Sun. “A lot of people have said a lot of things about my future but, for me, it is at Liverpool.”
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson was happy to hear Kuyt commit his future to the Reds, but he was adamant there was never any chance of the former Feyenoord player being sold anyway.
“Dirk Kuyt is not for sale so excuse me for not understanding the speculation of being happy now he has said he is staying because I never doubted he was staying,” Hodgson said.
“Dirk is an important part of Liverpool, I’ve made it clear we don’t welcome any offers for him and he’s not for sale. As far as I’m concerned he is someone I believe in, someone I count on.”
