Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy have secured the services of Jamaican goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, whose task is to significantly reduce the amount of goals the team concedes.
The club that hoped to reach the top by signing David Beckham hasn’t been able to do so and instead finished second bottom in this year’s Western Conference. Moreover, it conceded by far the most goals of all MLS teams with 62 against in 30 games. The fact that Galaxy also scored the most goals, turned out to be of little help.
Rickets, 31 years old, spent a short while at Bolton Wanderers in 2004 but never actually made an appearance with the club as he was soon loaned out and then sold to Bradford City where he played until this year.
The keeper has earned 67 caps with the Jamaican national team, and was selected for the 1998 World Cup squad. He didn’t get any playing minutes in France though.
In Los Angeles, Ricketts is to compete with fellow keepers Alamo, Cronin and Wicks.
