The MLS heavyweights LA Galaxy have acquired a notable player this week as the club confirmed the signing of Dutch defender Pele van Anholt.
The 26-year-old Dutch fullback arrives in Los Angeles on a free transfer after most recently representing the Eredivisie side Willem II. Van Anholt will join his new teammates on Thursday and will be at disposal for his team’s club friendly against Manchester United on 15 July.
Van Anholt made 24 league appearances for Willem II last season. He was primarily used at right-back but he is a versatile defender who can fill in a number of positions at the back and will be a valuable addition to Curt Onalfo’s side.
Prior to his season-long spell at Willem II, Pele van Anholt spent six years playing for Heerenveen where he played over 100 league games.
Having spent most of his playing career in Eredivisie, van Anholt moves to the United States under high expectations from his new side.
LA Galaxy are currently eight in the Western Conference and sit two points away from a playoff spot.
