Malaga claimed their first win in La Liga this term with a 4-0 rout of Granada, as Santi Cazorla and Joaquin netted a brace each on Monday.
After suffering a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in their first match, Malaga were in a must-win situation in order not to fall behind in the race for a Champions League post, and they could not have wished for a better start as they broke the deadlock just five minutes in.
Duda played a corner short to Cazorla, who found himself unhindered near the edge of the box before sending a left-footed drive into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Malaga were in control from that point on, and they doubled their lead in the 24th minute through Joaquin, who rose unchallenged in the area to head home a cross from Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The Dutch striker almost went from provider to scorer near the half-hour mark, when Guilherme Siqueira was dispossessed near the area, but his shot went straight against the bar.
Malaga re-asserted their dominance from the outset of the second half, finding the net in the opening minutes. Again it was Cazorla, but this time the former Villarreal man fired home a low-free kick.
There was still time for more before the end of the match, and Joaquin responded well to a Cazorla cross from the left with a right-footed volley.
Malaga now sit eighth in the league standings, while Granada are in last place and yet to earn a point.
