Racing Santander and Hercules played out a 0-0 draw in their La Liga fixture at El Sardinero on Monday.

There were few chances in the match, which did nothing to separate the sides sitting in the bottom half of the league table, just one point apart.

The 12th-placed Hercules went into the match without five players who were part of the side that beat Malaga 4-1 last week due to injury and suspension, and had the best opportunity to score when Javier Portillo hit the bar from a free kick in the second half.

Gonzalo Colsa had consecutive shots on goal for Racing just before half-time but he was denied on both counts.

Colsa mis-hit his first attempt on goal in the 43rd minute and not long after shot wide of the far post that forced Hercules goalkeeper Juan Calatayud to make a desperate dive.

Hercules finished the match pushing for a winning goal, but Racing goalkeeper Antonio Tono saved Abel Aguilar’s late strike at the near post, ensuring the match ended goalless.
