Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has moved to reject speculations linking him with a summer exit from Cornella El Prat.
The 27-year-old has developed into one of league’s top shot-stoppers and his impressive displays did not go unnoticed.
It is believed that El Clasico rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona are keeping close tabs on Casilla, but he does not seem to be concerned by the transfer talk.
“I am not concerned about the rumours regarding my future,” Casilla told EFE.
“I am pleased to hear my name mentioned in the press alongside Barcelona, Real Madrid and big English clubs, but my intention is to remain at Espanyol.
“I am in negotiations with the club over a new deal and I hope to reach an agreement soon. I don’t believe that the club are planning to sell me if they want to renew my contract, that would be a lack of respect.”
Francisco Casilla is another quality keeper to have come through the youth ranks at Real Madrid, but he left the club for Espanyol after making just 5 appearances for the B side.
He needed quite a while to establish himself as a first team regular for los Periquitos, but has largely impressed over the last year or so.
Casilla has so far amassed 64 La Liga appearances for Espanyol, while featuring in another 11 Copa del Rey matches.
