Malaga climbed away from the bottom of the La Liga table with a 2-0 home win over Espanyol on Sunday, as Hercules and Almeria both lost.
A first-half brace from Venezuelan forward Rondon secured all three points at La Rosaleda.
The victory lifts them into 18th place, one point from safety.
Hercules replace them at the bottom after going down 4-0 at home to Osasuna.
Javier Camunas and Nelson struck to put vOsasuna 2-0 up in the first half at Estadio Jose Rico Perez.
Two goals in six second-half minutes from Krisztian Vadocz and Kike Sola wrapped up the victory for Osasuna, who are now 10th.
Almeria slid one place to second last after going down 1-0 at Sporting Gijon.
Miguel de las Cuevas netted the only goal of the match for Sporting just 13 minutes in at El Molinon.
In other matches, Giovani Dos Santos helped Racing Santander see off Real Sociedad 2-1, while a last-minute winner from Ruben Suarez Estrada helped Levante snatch a 1-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna.
