Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has told his Premier League rivals to forget about signing Ron Vlaar, according to the Daily Star.
The centre-back was one of the star performers for the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, leading to a number of clubs to be linked with a move to secure his services.
He is one of a number of Netherlands players being considered by new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, while fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman is keen to take him to Southampton.
Queens Park Rangers are also in the race, though they have recently completed deals for both Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker.
Vlaar has been at Villa Park for the past two seasons, making sixty-five appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.
Villa start the season with a trip to Stoke City, where they can be backed at 13/5 to take all three points.
