Lampard, Defoe put England past Slovenia

Goals from Frank Lampard and Jermain Defoe lifted England to a 2-1 victory over Slovenia in an international friendly match at Wembley Stadium.

Chelsea midfielder Lampard put England in front on 31 minutes when slotted home a penalty after Wayne Rooney controversially won a decision in a challenge with Bostjan Cesar, who later when off injured in a crippling blow for their qualifying hopes.

Defoe then put England two goals to the good in the 63rd minute when he slammed home after receiving a wonderful cross from Tottenham teammate Aaron Lennon.

Slovenia attempted to get back into things when Zlatan Ljubijankic headed home past Robert Green five minutes from time to pull it close, but England held out for victory.
