(GSM) – Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard says he feared for Rio Ferdinand as the skipper ruled out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup with a knee injury sustained in training.
The England captain will be out of action for between four and six weeks and Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson has been called into the squad to replace Ferdinand.
“He’s very down,” Lampard said.
“It’s a huge competition, the biggest competition.
“It made me feel a bit sick in the stomach so I can’t imagine how he feels,” the Blues playmaker explained.
Ferdinand, who made his England debut back in 1997 as a 19-year-old, has 78 caps and has scored three goals for his country.
