Lille goalkeeper Mickael Landreau believes Hugo Lloris has the class to overcome the challenge of Brad Friedel and become a Tottenham regular.
Friedel was in goals for Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, extending his record of consecutive English Premier League games played to 319 – a run stretching over eight years – while Lloris played in the 0-0 draw against Lazio in the Europa League.
And Landreau has come out in support of Lloris, saying he was unconcerned by talk of any lasting exposure to the substitutes’ bench – pointing to the performance against the Serie A side as being a step in the right direction.
Landreau told RTL: “In the short term, I can understand the debate, but I do not find it particularly worrying for Hugo.
“It will evolve. Already there is the Europa League – so it does not mean he does not play. The Europa League games are quite interesting.
“He continues to play for France, and he was outstanding in the last two matches. His Europa League involvement may just be the start for him.”
