Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes that star player Xavi Hernandez will be appointed a new coach when Josep Guardiola decides to step down from the post.
Pep Guardiola has yet to extend his contract at Camp Nou, which led to speculations that he could leave the club at the end of the season.
However, Joan Laporta, one of the most successful president’s in club’s history, is confident the talented coach will stay at Blaugrana for years to come.
“Pep Guardiola will be the next president of Barcelona, ” Laporta told La Repubblica.
Laporta also believes that Xavi Hernandez will succeed Guardiola when he decides to end his playing career.
“Xavi will be the next coach, he is a phenomenon. He is a also a great person.”
Laporta was elected club president in 2003 and he quickly managed to improve the club’s fortunes, partly thanks to club legend Johan Cruyff.
The Catalans enjoyed a lot of success before Laporta decided to step down from the post in 2011 and the 49-year-old knows the reasons behind club’s recent success.
“There are four elements to it. Catalunya is one of them. Johan Cruyff is also an important key to the club’s success.
