According to a recent report from Sky Sports News, Southend United’s chairman has flown out to Stockholm, Sweden in order to discuss the possibility of Henrik Larsson becoming the club’s new manager. They will also interview potential coaches that could form his backroom staff, with the plan being for the deal to go through within the next few weeks.
The belief last week was that the two parties were quite some distance apart when it comes to getting a deal over the finish line, but since then, things have accelerated.
Larsson is well known for being a legendary striker within the realms of European football, but now, he’ll be given the opportunity to prove himself on what some would argue is an even bigger platform: the world of management.
Southend are struggling after a run of six losses to begin the new League One season, and given how hard they worked to get back into the third tier, they won’t want to surrender their position there without a fight.
