Barcelona flop Alen Halilovic is making a return to Spanish La Liga after just a couple of months spent at the Bundesliga club Hamburg, the German news outlet Bild has confirmed.

The Croatian midfielder struggled in Germany and returns to Spain looking to make his first competitive appearance since October 2016.

The 20-year-old prospect, once dubbed the Balkan Messi joins Las Palmas on an 18-month loan with an option for a permanent deal.

Halilovic was tipped for bright future upon his arrival to Barcelona from Dinamo Yagreb back in 2014, but he never quite managed to live up to the expectations.

The Croatia international spent last season on loan at Sporting Gijon, scoring five goals during his time at El Molinon, and is coming back to La Liga looking to revive his career.

Barcelona continue to monitor Halilovic progress and are reported to still have an option to buy back the player anytime during the duration of his loan at Las Palmas.
