New Cameroon coach Denis Lavagne revealed Samuel Eto’o would continue to wear the captain’s armband for the African nation under his rule.
Lavagne said he would work with all those willing to bring progress to the team, as he shapes up plans for the LG Cup in Morocco, which the Indomitable Lions have been invited to participate in.
“Samuel Eto’o remains the team captain. He is my captain,” the Frenchman told state radio CRTV on Friday.
“Our workshop in Marrakech on November 7 ahead of the tournament will be an occasion to familiarize with each other – Eto’o and I.”
The former Inter and Barcelona striker had strongly rooted for Lavagne’s predecessor Javier Clemente, rallying against the Spaniard’s removal.
Eto’o is yet to react to Lavagne’s nomination. Local editorialists write that the four-time African Footballer of the Year is taking time to digest the new development.
