Atalanta’s 11-match winning streak in Serie A ended with a 1-1 draw against Lazio on Saturday, though Gian Piero Gasperini’s side remain one point clear at the top of the Italian top division.
Marco Brescianini came off the bench to score the equaliser for the visiting side in the 88th minute when he turned home a cutback from Ademola Lookman.
The home side had taken the lead in the 27th minute when Fisayo Dele-Bashiru latched onto a ball over the Atalanta defence from Nicolo Rovella and slotted past goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.
Atalanta sit top of the table with 41 points from 18 matches, but defending champions Inter are only one point behind with a game in hand, after they beat Cagliari 3-0 earlier on Saturday.
After Dele-Bashiru found the opener in the first half, there were chances at both ends of the field before substitute Brescianini salvaged a point for the frontrunners.
Lazio, meanwhile, occupy fourth place with 35 points, with Napoli are in third place with 38 points.
Atalanta will next face Inter in the Italian Super Cup semi-final in Saudi Arabia on 2 January.

Data Debrief: Atalanta close out fantastic 2024
Despite a draw that ended their 11-match winning run in Serie A, Atalanta will look back at the calendar year with satisfaction.
In May, they beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to win the Europa League under Gasperini, courtesy of a Lookman hat-trick.
Atalanta also registered both their record number of wins (36) in a single calendar year in all competitions since the 1929-30 season and their record number of goals scored (127) during 2024.
Their 41-point tally after 18 games in this season’s Serie A is also four points more than they have collected in any other season in the Italian top-flight.
