Lazio in talks for Ron Vlaar

Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport has learned that Lazio are in talks to sign Dutch defender Ron Vlaar from Aston Villa.

The Netherlands international is a free agent seeing as his contract at Villa Park has expired and he has flown to Rome with his agent to negotiate a deal with the Biancocelesti.

His official representative even confirmed talks with Lazio as he was questioned about the reason behind his arrival at the Rome Fiumicino airport.

Following some impressive displays for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup and strong showings in the Premier League, Vlaar became a target for Europe’s top sides, but he has yet to find a new club after leaving Aston Villa.

The 30-year-old joined the Villans in a €4 million deal from Feyenoord three years ago and went on to make 79 Premier League appearances for the club.

Vlaar played every minute of Netherlands’ 2014 World Cup campaign that saw them achieve a third-place finish.
