Lazio are the latest club to have joined the race to sign Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaatr, Il Corriere dello Sport has revealed.
It is highly unlikely that the Dutch striker will opt to extend his deal with the Miners that is set to expire in June 2013, meaning that he could easily leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
With that being the case, almost all top European clubs are showing interest in the highly rated forward, with Lazio being the latest club to join the chase.
The Biancocelesti see Huntelaar as a perfect replacement for Miroslav Klose, a player who is entering the final stage of his career.
Lazio are aware that they need to beat sides like Chelsea, Bayern, Zenit and Atletico Madrid to the player’s signature, but are, nonetheless, willing to try.
Given that Huntelaar has scored 48 goals in as many competitive games last season, it is hardly surprising that such high-profile clubs are chasing his signature.
