Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Lazio have emerged as favourites to sign Fabio Borini from Sunderland.
Even though he has another two years left on his contract at the Stadium of Light, the Italian is almost certain to leave after the Black Cats were relegated to the Championship.
A return to Italian Serie A could be on the cards as Lazio seem determined to bring Borini to Stadio Olimpico.
Namely, the Biancocelesti plan to offload Balde Keita and Filip Djordjevic this summer, and they believe the 26-year-old would be a good addition to their front line.
The fact that Borini had spent a year and a half with arch rivals AS Roma doesn’t seem to be a stumbling block, especially since Lazio should be able to get their man on the cheap.
Fabio Borini only managed to score 7 goals in 50 Premier League appearances for Sunderland since returning to the Stadium of Light.
