Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport understands Lazio are readying January bid for Borussia M’gladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
After Matuzalem left Olimpico to join Genoa, the Biancocelesti hope to sign another central midfielder in the winter, who would increase competition for places in the centre of the park.
Lazio are still fighting on all three fronts and they need some more strength in depth if they are to continue with impressive results.
Il Corriere dello Sport has suggested that the Biancocelesti have made Gladbach’s Granit Xhaka their number one target.
Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic knows the player very well from his time at Young Boys, while sporting director Igli Tare is also a big admirer of the midfielder.
The Serie A giants hope to sign the player on loan in January with an option to buy his contract at the end of the season for around €7.5 million.
Xhaka only joined Borussia M’gladbach in the summer, but has failed to hold on to a regular starting berth and is ready to leave the German club.
