Il Corriere dello Sport has learned that Lazio star Stefan de Vrij is in talks over a new and improved deal at Stadio Olimpico.
The Netherlands international is widely regarded as a key member of the squad and with his current contract due to expire in June 2018, the club chiefs are desperate to secure an extension as soon as possible.
Lazio are ready to offer De Vrij a new contract until June 2021, worth around €2 million per campaign, which would make him the highest paid player at the club together with Ciro Immobile.
The Biancocelesti would also include a €35 million release clause, accepting the possibility that the Dutch defender could soon leave for greener pastures.
De Vrij has been the subject of interest from top European clubs including AC Milan and Chelsea, and the Blues reportedly had a €35 million bid rejected in the summer transfer window.
