Lazio Roma have won the Italian Supercoppa for the third time in history, beating champions Internazionale 2-1 in Beijing.
The event took place far away from the teams’ home country. This year, the Chinese capital city was chosen to host the match. On previous occasions, Washington DC, Tripoli and New York also offered venues for the Supercoppa.
Inter attacked from the start and actually were the team that most deserved the victory.
But it wasn’t meant to be as Matuzalem put Lazio ahead in the 63rd minute and Rocchi made it 2-0 three minutes later.
Samuel Eto’o scored his first official goal for Inter in the 78th minute but it was to no avail as Jose Mourinho’s side failed to get a second goal. Milito thought to have scored a late equaliser but his effort was correctly disallowed for off-side.
Lazio won the trophy before in 1998 and 2000, beating Juventus and Inter respectively.
