Aston Villa have stunned Manchester City 4-2 in the League Cup, with Charles N’Zogbia and Gabriel Agbonlahor completing the extra-time win.
In one of two League Cup ties to go to extra-time on Tuesday, Manchester City started the additional period on top, with Scott Sinclair drawing a good save from Villa goalkeeper Shay Given.
But it was the visitors who went ahead, with N’Zogbia scoring in the 96th minute.
Villa wrapped up the third-round victory in the second half of extra-time when Agbonlahor scored his second goal of the game with seven minutes left, as his left-footed shot found the top corner of the net.
Mario Balotelli scored the opening goal of the game in the 27th minute but Manchester City allowed the visitors to recover when Gareth Barry scored an own goal after 58 minutes.
The home side were ahead again just five minutes later when Alexander Kolarov scored but Agbonlahor equalised for Villa in the 70th minute.
In the other game that required extra-time, Bradford City’s Stephen Darby scored the winner in a 3-2 victory at home to Burton Albion.
Championship club Leeds United held on to upset Everton 2-1 despite Sylvain Distin’s late header for the English Premier League visitors.
Leeds got off to a brilliant start at home when Aidan White scored in just the fourth minute and looked to have victory all sewn up with 21 minutes to play thanks to Rudolph Austin’s goal.
But Distin’s header in the 81st minute gave Everton, who are second in the EPL, some hope of a late comeback but Marouane Fellaini and Nikica Jelavic failed to score an equaliser when presented with the opportunity.
Premier League leaders Chelsea scored three goals in each half as they destroyed Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-0, Swansea City came from 2-1 down to win 3-2 over Crawley Town and Wigan Athletic thumped West Ham United 4-1.
In other League Cup results, Southampton defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-0, Middlesbrough knocked out Preston North End 3-1, Sunderland won 2-0 away to MK Dons and Swindon Town triumphed 3-1 against Burnley.
