Serie A strugglers Lecce have revealed that defender Djamel Mesbah is on the verge of completing a switch to Milan.
Milan singled out the Algerian as a possible solution for the left-back position and they were linked with a January move for the player.
Mesbah later admitted he was flattered by the reported interest from the Rossoneri, and it now appears that the transfer is close to fruition.
Lecce boss Serse Cosmi announced the news during his press conference earlier today.
“Mesbah is not in the squad because he is going to join Milan. There is nothing official yet, but he should make the move at the start of next week,” said Cosmi.
“Plus his wife is set to give birth at any moment, so it is better that he stays at home during this time.”
Mesbah arrived to Lecce in the summer of 2009 and helped the Salentini gain promotion to Serie A in his first season at the club.
Following some solid displays in Italy’s top flight, the 27-year-old became a target for several Italian giants and he will now be given a chance to impress at San Siro.
