2009/10 Serie B champions US Lecce have announced the signing of Brazilian defender Gustavo Franchin Schiavolin on loan from Palmerias. The terms of the loan include an option for Lecce to buy the 28 year old’s services on a permanent basis.

Lecce will compete in Serie A this season after winning promotion from Serie B. Gustavo joins two other Brazilian defenders in Lecce’s ranks- Angelo and Fabiano.

Gustavo, a Guarani youth product, had stints with Levski Sofia and Dinamo Moscow before returning home to Goias. He then had short spells with Ponte Preta, CRB and Parana before signing for Palmeiras in 2007. He has also played for Vasco da Gama and Cruzeiro.
