Leeds lining up Aneke bid

Leeds United are considering a move for Arsenal youth player Chuks Aneke, according to the Express.

The 20 year old has spent the majority of his career so far out on loan, first in brief spells with Stevenage and Preston North End, and then with Crewe Alexandra, for whom he made eighty-two appearances in two stints across the past two seasons.

His one and only appearance for the Gunners came as a stoppage time substitute in a 3-1 League Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town in September 2011, and after failing to agree a new deal with the North London club, he looks set to leave on a free transfer this summer.

Crewe are also interested in securing the striker’s services on a permanent basis, though Leeds’ track record of developing young talent may work in their favour.

The Yorkshire club are currently without a manager having parted company with Brian McDermott last month.
