Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Matthew Pattison will reportedly go on trial with English Championship side Leeds United this week.
The 26-year-old has been relegated to a peripheral role with Sundowns since the arrival of Dutch coach Johann Neeskens, and has been linked with teams in Russia.
Now, according to Kickoff.com, Pattison will attempt to impress Leeds boss Simon Grayson and follow in the footsteps of former South Africa skipper Lucas Radebe by sealing a move to Elland Road.
Pattison’s agent, Paul Mitchell, refused to confirm Elland Road as his destination, but did admit the former Newcastle and Norwich player will start training with an unnamed club in England on Monday morning.
“I can confirm he is in England with a Championship club. I’m not at liberty to say which club it is at the moment but he’ll be there for a week and we’ll see how things go,” Mitchell told KickOff.com.
“Matthew has had to look at going back to the UK because of some family matters of which Sundowns are aware and they have been very helpful in allowing him to return.”
“We have had firm offers from European teams, including two in Russia, but at this moment in time a return to the UK is what he wants. He’s fully enjoyed his time in SA and wouldn’t rule out returning.”
Several other Championship clubs are also thought to be interested in signing Pattison, who has won two caps for Bafana.
