Former English football giants Leeds United signed Australian international defender Patrick Kisnorbo on Wednesday on a two-year contract.
The 28-year-old – capped 14 times – signed on a free transfer after being released by newly-promoted Championship side Leicester City at the end of last season.
Kisnorbo, who began his European career with Scottish side Hearts, said he had had several other offers but saw more potential in the former Champions League semi-finalists, who have lost in the League One play-offs on two successive occasions.
“Leeds has a great tradition and history and I want to be part of a successful club,” Kisnorbo told the club’s website.
“Other clubs were interested but I saw more in this club than in the others. None of them appealed to me as much.”
Kisnorbo, who had attracted interest from Championship sides Crystal Palace and Derby County, will join up with international team-mate Neil Kilkenny, with both of them entertaining hopes of making their country’s World Cup squad next year in South Africa.
