Leeds United are interested in signing Brentford star Ollie Watkins, according to The Sunday Mirror (print edition, page 67, August 2, 2020). It has been reported that Leeds will make a move for the 24-year-old attacking player if Brentford fail to clinch promotion to the Premier League.
The Bees will take on Fulham at Wembley in London in the Championship playoff final on Tuesday evening. Leeds won automatic promotion to the Premier League and will play in the top flight of English football for the first time since 2004.
Watkins is one of the best player in the Championship who can play as a forward or as an attacking midfielder. The former Exeter City star has scored 26 goals and provided three assists in the league for Brentford this season, according to WhoScored.
Patrick Bamford is the main striker at Leeds at the moment, and the former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest man needs more competition for his place in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting lineup on a regular basis.
