Veteran Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie is on his way to AC Milan after signing a six-month deal.

The 34-year-old has been signed as defensive cover for Alessandro Nesta as Milan look to hold on to their lead in Serie A. He joins Antonio Cassano, Mark van Bommel, Urby Emanuelson and Didac Vila as recent arrivals at the club.

Legrottaglie had become surplus to requirements at Juventus after the Turin club signed Andrea Barzagli from Wolfsburg last week.

He could make his debut for the Rossoneri as soon as Tuesday’s match against Lazio, with Milan looking to extend their four-point lead on top of the table.

Meanwhile, cross-town rivals Inter have secured Japanese left back Yuto Nagatomo from Cesena on a loan deal.

Nagatomo, who set up Japan’s winning goal in Saturday’s Asian Cup final win over Australia, arrives at the current European champions, with Davide Santon going in the opposite direction.
