Veteran Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann believes he can play on for another season.
The German came out of retirement and returned to the Gunners in March after Arsene Wenger’s goalkeeping stocks suffered an injury crisis.
Lehmann only signed a short-term contract on his return, but insists he can go on despite making just one performance in the top flight.
“It was not really a comeback, but more of a last resort. Actually, more of a hobby,” Lehmann told German newspaper Bild on Wednesday.
“I took three weeks to get really fit and then I had to play against Blackpool. I thought, ‘You can do it still, it is not forgotten’.”
“From my performance, I would be able to continue playing. My teammates are always asking me if I’ll still be here next season.”
Lehmann, who is completing his coaching badges, said he wanted to remain in the game, even if it was not in a playing capacity.
“I can very well imagine a job in football. First, I’ll probably end my (coaching) course,” he said.
“When you have such personalities as Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, this (England) is the ideal situation.”
Arsenal travel to Fulham on Sunday, but will need Bolton to upset Manchester City in order to claim third spot and direct qualification into next season’s UEFA Champions League.
