Leicester City have agreed a deal with RB Salzburg over the proposed signing of Patson Daka, a number of sources have reported.
A versatile attacking player who prefers the central role, Daka scored a total of 34 goals in and assisted 12 in 42 appearances across all competitions for Salzburg in 2020-21. The 22-year-old has so far accumulated 22 caps ass a Zambia international.
Liverpool were credited with strong interest in his services several months ago, and he was tipped to replace the misfiring Divock Origi in the squad at Anfield this summer. However, it seems the Merseysiders didn’t act decisively enough and Leicester, looking to secure a long-term successor for Jamie Vardy, saw an opportunity to swoop in. RB Leipzig and Chelsea were occasionally mentioned as well.
Daka joined Salzburg in 2017 and initially signed a five-year deal, but he renewed his commitment to the Austrian club in 2019.
Salzburg have accepted Leicester’s offer, apparently worth around €25 million, and now it’s between the Foxes and the player to thrash out the personal terms.
