Leicester City reportedly targeted several signings during the summer which they were eventually priced out from, including centre-backs Nathan Ake of Bournemouth and James Tarkowski of Burnley, but according to The Telegraph, they have banked in the £80 million generated by the sale of Harry Maguire to Manchester United.
These kind of fees are usually paid in several installments spread over a longer period of time, but United were so desperate to complete the deal that they have already paid up in one huge transaction. The money already being at the disposal of the club now puts them in a different situation, and Ake and Tarkowski are expected to be targeted again in January despite Caglar Soyuncu fitting in well alongside Johnny Evans in the heart of defence. Manager Brendan Rodgers and the club’s recruitment department are already working on identifying targets in other areas as well.
The Foxes also plan to trim their current squad slightly, with the likes of midfielder Nampalys Mendy and forward Kelechi Iheanacho among those who could possibly leave the King Power Stadium.
