Leicester City have officially confirmed the signing of Filip Benkovic, who makes the jump over from Dinamo Zagreb. The deal is believed to be valued in the region of £13 million, with the young Croatian being a big coup for the Foxes on Deadline Day. Chelsea were actually said to be interested in signing the 21-year-old defender at one point, but Leicester were able to beat them to the punch.
Benkovic made 30 appearances last season, showcasing a growing maturity and composure on the ball that makes him a hot commodity for any team across European football. He also scored four times throughout the last campaign, too, proving that there’s certainly still a market for goalscoring defenders.
Leicester will be hoping that the likes of Benkovic can help to lead the club back towards the European spots this season, as the former Premier League champions attempt to adjust their expectations once again.
