Leixoes did what they needed to do to remain in first place in the Portuguese Liga Sagres, having beaten Paços de Ferreira 2-1 on Sunday.

Wesley and Diogo Valente led Leixoes to a comfortable advantage in the first half, and William’s goal for 2-1 in the 81st minute came too late for the visiting side.

Leixoes remain in first place, which they might have to share again after Nacional Funchal’s match with local rivals Maritimo on Monday.

Benfica Lisbon secured a 1-2 victory at Vitoria Guimaraes and are currently second in the league.

Suazo and Sidnei scored for Benfica in the opening phase of the match. Douglas did something back for the home side, but Benfica held on to their lead despite playing the entire second half without the red-card José Antonio Reyes.
