Defender Lucky Lekgwathi is worried Orlando Pirates’s inconsistency could ruin their chances of back-to-back Premier Soccer League titles.
Pirates suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bloemfontein Celtic in their league match at the weekend, before winning 2-0 against Golden Arrows on Wednesday.
Already seven points behind league-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns nearing the halfway point of the season, Pirates captain Lekgwathi said his side must start stringing consecutive wins together to help breach the gap.
“We cannot afford to be inconsistent in the league because it means we will slip further behind in the title race,” Lekgwathi told Kickoff.com.
“If you look at the way we have performed, we have already lost more games than we did throughout our campaign last season and this is not good.”
“Winning the League title remains very important to us this is why we are very concerned. We cannot be winning for a few games and then losing when we appear to be on track.”
“Inconsistency has become our enemy and we have to address this fast because it will become harder for us to defend our title.”
