Inter Milan boss Leonardo was pleased his side were able to overcome ‘several different problems’ in their 2-1 win over Catania on Sunday.
Inter struggled to break through Catania’s defence early and went down in the 71st minute when Alejandro Dario Gomez pounced from close range.
But Argentina international Esteban Cambiasso stepped up with two goals in the next eight minutes to deny Catania, giving Inter their second straight win under Leonardo.
The former AC Milan boss preached calm after the victory, saying there is still plenty of room for improvement at the San Siro.
“Well, there were several different problems,” Leonardo told reporters.
“In the first half we found it difficult to find the right solutions both in defence and attack not only because we were slow, but also because Catania were marking very well.”
“They were very balanced, (Ezequiel) Carboni was behind the four midfielders, therefore it was difficult to find the right answer.”
“They are really good at working in both areas and put in a really good performance and created many problems.”
“In any case, we didn’t concede too much in the first half, we only conceded a counter-attack and a shot at goal by the end of the first half.”
“The second half was different because we wanted to win this match even if we weren’t playing that well, but we wanted to score goals.”
“We had two or three dangerous chances. I took the decision to make several substitutions and move the team up the pitch; however we did concede that goal from a corner kick.”
