Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner said that he has no plans to sell the club and that he is still fully committed after five years at Villa Park.
The 49-year-old bought the west Midlands outfit in 2006 for 62.6 million pounds, and it has recently been reported that he is looking for a buyer for the Premier League side.
However Lerner, who also owns NFL side the Cleveland Browns, has moved to assure fans that he has no plans to sell the club.
Asked if he is still committed to Villa, he told The Times: “Yes.”
He also denied any plans to sell, adding: “No. Not unless it’s something to do with the kids – news you could never expect.”
One criticism of Lerner is that he has only attended one home game this season, however the American has suggested that knowing the history and heritage of the club is more important.
“I get the idea that, ‘You haven’t been at games, what does that mean?'” he said.
“But while being in the right seat at the right game might create short-term reassurance, I can’t get over the idea that really what people feel is that their club is being run by a group of guys who know the history, study the heritage and view Villa as a proud Victorian club in its third century.”
