Two sides who already find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Bundesliga table, Bayern Munich will make the trip to Furth on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Furth might have managed to stun many across Germany as they secured a spot in the Bundesliga last season, it is no surprise that they’re already tipped as a landslide relegation favourite. Already rooted to the foot of the table and knowing that they face a hugely overwhelming test on home soil, Head Coach Stefan Leitl has seen his side fail to lay down any kind of marker so far. Throwing away the lead last weekend away at Hertha Berlin and eventually suffering a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat on the road, the Cloverleaves have managed to muster just a single point from any of their first five attempts. With a 1-1 draw against Arminia Bielefeld last month the only minor positive for Leitl, Furth should be bucking themselves in for what could be a long night’s work at the Sportpark Ronhof.
As for the visitors, while Bayern might have only managed to open the 2021/22 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the German heavyweights are now in the midst of their usual romp. Last seen putting on a rampant display at home against Bochum, new boss Julian Nagelsmann saw his side land a stunning 7-0 win. Taking their place at the top of the table and now winning each of their last seven straight matchups across all formats, the former RB Leipzig boss will also be boosted by Leroy Sane’s start to the new season. Despite initially struggling to find his feet when making his return to Germany, the 25-year-old has gained plenty of plaudits over the past month. Finding the net in back-to-back Bundesliga contests, there is no doubt that Sane should be smelling a golden chance to extend on that tally this week.
