Craig Levein acknowledged his disappointment after watching Scotland drop two points in their 2014 World Cup qualifier against Serbia.
Levein looked on as his side squandered several good chances to take all three points in their home opener at Hampden Park.
The former Dundee United manager feels his side have improved since their previous qualifying campaign, but lamented a lack of quality finishing.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the draw, Levein said: “(I feel) a shade of disappointment, I was hoping to win the match.
“I think we did enough to win the game and in international football sometimes you’re lucky to create two or three chances, well we certainly got double that, maybe more, but these things happen.
“Overall I felt we played really well, if you go back to the previous campaign against the Czech Republic, where we got a couple of goals, we didn’t create as many chances, but I think there’s been a definite progression.
“I would have loved to have won the match, but the lads did everything I asked of them, but we can play better and that’s what we were talking about after the game, we can play better and that’s encouraging.”
Scotland take on Macedonia at Hampden Park on Tuesday and Levein is anticipating another tight contest.
“It’ll be a tough match,” he said.
“They had a great performance against Croatia and were very unlucky to lose the match.
“It’ll be a very different type of game, but as I say we can play better than we did today, I think we were at 80 percent of our game and we can do better.”
