Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen has revealed that they have an agreement in place with Hamburg midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.
The highly rated footballer had earlier suggested he would like to join die Werkself this summer, but his current employers remain adamant they will not be selling their prized asset in the near future.
Nevertheless, Bayer Leverkusen claims they have an agreement in principle with the attacking midfielder, while they have submitted an official proposal for his services.
“Calhanoglu should become our marquee signing. We have presented an offer in writing to HSV,” Leverkusen chief Michael Schade told Bild.
“We have an understanding with the player. He has verbally accepted our offer and only wants to join us, he has informed Hamburg of this.”
Bild has learned that the offer is worth €12.5 million, while the player would be earning around €3 million per campaign at Bay Arena.
Hakan Calhanoglu only joined HSV last summer from Karlsruher, but he went on to impress in his first ever Bundesliga season.
The 20-year-old made a total of 32 league appearances, scoring 11 goals and helping the Red Shorts avoid relegation to the second division.
